Would you believe that there are many back pain sufferers who learn to live pretty much pain free lives? If back pain is a big issue for you, you would be surprised.
It may not be possible to get a same day appointment for treatment of a serious back issue, and while waiting for an appointment, it is difficult for many people to sit or lie down comfortably. Various types of back injuries will benefit from lying flat and bending the knees. This position lowers the tension existing in the muscles and tendons that run from the back down through the legs.
To determine how severe your back injury is and to keep from further injuring it, you should rest for a couple days after your pain starts. If, after a few days, the pain goes away, then most likely it was just a minor injury. Then again, the pain could get worse or stay the same; in which case, you’d have to see a doctor or chiropractor to determine the cause. Trying to rest away the pain may in fact allow it to worsen by causing the support muscles to further weaken from lack of use.
Avoid stressing and overworking the same back muscles, regardless of the physical position your body is in. Avoid repetitive movements at work or while performing tasks at home. Find ways to stand or sit differently and change your position so you aren’t in one position for long periods.
Lay down and lift your legs as if you were sitting if your back hurts. This is a comfortable position that will decrease the amount of stress on the back much more than many other different sitting positions. You should explore various positions to find out what works best for you, but the position I’ve described is a great starting point.
Do you have back pain? Try to stay away from abnormal motions throughout the day. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, from lifting heavy objects to cleaning the house, you can cause pain to your back. If you participate in any sports, you should be aware of your movement as it affects your spine; if you experience discomfort or tightness, you should immediately slow down or stop.
Back pain is caused by spasms in the muscles in your back. Relaxing these muscles is key. Cramped muscles can be calmed down by putting a heating pad on the area that is bothering you. It will also be a good idea to drink a lot of water and lower your sodium intake while you are in pain. Being dehydrated can worsen or cause muscle spasms.
If paralysis occurs, there are some cases that can be repaired with some type of surgery. It depends on situation and how extreme the case is. Although back surgery is risky, it may improve existing paralysis, as well as prevent further damage. A lot of the time, these particular cases are degenerative in nature and were not situations of cause and effect.
When struggling to deal with back issues, you will already be aware of how disruptive this can be on all aspects of your life. Your back pain can not only strain your physical body, it can also affect your social life and your work.
